Human Behavior and the Environment Within this paper, we will discuss how environmental cues shape behavior. We will also look at how behavior can be modified to support sustainability, as well as how this can limit a negative impact on the environment. Then we will describe how social norms influence behavior and beliefs about the environment. Finally, we will identify two possible solutions that could successfully change behavior and habits in order to lessen negative environment impact. If your group of friends and your family do not display a desire to do anything good for the world around them, do you think you will have that drive to make the world a better place? The answer is more often than not, no. Our social habits dictate that we go along with whatever the majority of the people surrounding us are doing. In most social situations, even if it is known to be something hurtful wrong, mob mentality sets in, and you do it anyway.
Changing Behavior to Lessen Negative Impact So, my first solution to successfully change behaviors and habits in order to lessen negative environmental impact is to set a good example. Just by us making these changes and letting others know we have made these changes, not just with words but by also letting them see our actions and see the changes in progress, we can influence others and help them to make the choice to support sustainability of our society, and ultimately our planet. Something like a YouTube channel in which you post videos that chronicle different ideas for promoting sustainability would be an excellent idea for getting the word out there, and setting an example for others. You could show people exactly how, step-by-step, you can make better choices and do things that will help the environment instead of hurting it. My second solution is to use smart technology to
