According to Foundation for Critical Thinking (2009), “Critical thinking is that mode of thinking—about any subject, content, or problem—in which the thinker improves the quality of his or her thinking by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing intellectual standards upon them” (Defining Critical Thinking, para. 9). Thinking is part of everyone’s human nature. People who can separate their thoughts, analyze them, and change the behavior to make their thoughts more ethical and fair are the best critical thinkers. Once the junior students were chosen, we took their photos early and used the students to be our advertising inside their schools. They showed off the photos and promoted Sumner Photography and we gave them discounts in return. This program increased our senior customers from approximately 100 customers to 225 customers within the first year of the program. When researching and analyzing the details of the Ambassador program, I used the flow chart steps from above. I gathered data related to the issue of low customer and sales numbers. I then used my research, education, and experience of being a former high school student to develop the program as a solution. Next, I figured the startup costs of the program against the projected amount of revenue. Finally, I approached my boss with the idea of the program and worked with him to discuss the impact it would have on the business¬--if it were a success or a failure.
Conclusion
Using critical thinking in the decision-making process is imperative to making rational, ethical decisions that will benefit everyone impacted by the decision. When thinking open-mindedly and knowing all the facts related to a problem, this assists management, for example, in making the best decision for all those involved.
