* * Netflix has maintained its competitive advantage in many different ways in order to provide subscribers a large and diverse selection of DVD titles. It views itself as a programmer of content rather than a distributor, the online video streaming service is getting more competitive with the increasing intensity amongst rivals (Clark, 2013). When Netflix decided to partner up with Starz Entertainment it allowed Netflix to increase its number of titles by 30 % (Thompson, 2010). Later on they also partnered with Universal studios, Warner Bros, Indie Films, Relative Media, Epix etc. which further expanded their library content available to subscribers. This allowed Netflix to expand the number of movies and TV episodes offered. Netflix’s goal is to add more original content so their millions of subscribers can watch movies and shows that they can’t view anywhere else. In February 2013, Netflix held exclusive rights to the much buzzed premiere of: “House of Cards.” Due to the success of this original content, Netflix brand rose 140% from the previous year (Clark, 2013). However they are not the only ones to have this point of differentiation as their competitor Amazon.com have also signed exclusive deals to offer hit series like the PBS “Downtown Abbey” to their subscribers (Crum, 2013).
