Importance of Keeping Sensitive Items Secure

In opening this essay will be covering the importance of keeping accountability of and securing sensitive items and its effect it has and can have on completing the mission. As well as maintaining Operational Security (OPSEC). I will also be covering the Army’s views and standards on maintaining sensitive item accountability and the punishments that can be set forth to an individual or group by section leader or chain of command. I will be using references and real life scenarios to illustrate its importance. The opposing and allied forces can get information or allow them to plant codes and path ways to the information they are looking forward. It’s as easy as forgetting your identification card in your computer, leaving your computer unlocked when not at your desk. Using thumbs drive, cd or external hard drives that have been infected by virus, Trojans, or malicious codes or software and unlawfully plugging them into a government computer. All These devices can be used depending on authorization from your S-6 or network administrator and once scanned and cleaned by them. Also any emails that you receive from user’s u don’t know or don’t have a subject, don’t open them! Report them as spam or to your local S-6 or network advisor. Always follow your company’s or organizations policies in regards to network active defense on network security. “The art of losing isn’t hard to master; so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost, their loss is no disaster,” a poet wrote. Identification cards are vitally important to maintain at all times, arguably the most dangerous and important item of sensitive items. The military identification card comes in different variations from the active service member’s card to the dependents card, and retired service member’s cards. Not to mention the civilian department of defense ID cards, this by no means should be considered less affective for use by an individual not authorized access to one. Each
