Literature Search Paper Research allows an individual to investigate a subject in order to discover facts and theories. The facts learned from the research are applied to his or her everyday use. There are various databases found that assists with research, however not all provide researched and scientific data. As a baccalaureateprepared nurse, it is critical to use a database that provides scientific data in means of articles and journals. To broaden a search, one will chose “OR” which allows any of the terms chosen to be accessed. The first Boolean Operator I used was “OR”. I was researching the hand hygiene required for a patient with Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus or Vancomycin Resistance Enterococci. By typing in both MRSA and VRE with the use of the “OR” operator, I found 5,624 articles resulted. To narrow the search I chose the “AND operator. I typed MRSA and handwashing, which resulted in 67 articles. I browsed the citations and abstracts and concluded on the direction I desired to go with my research.

Limiters CINAHL offers more ability to narrow research by offering an “Advanced Search” mode. Some examples of limiters are: publication year, publication type, language, journal subset, age, gender, human subject, clinical trials. The Publication Type and Language were two limiters that I used. The limiter of Publication Type allows the user to narrow the search results by selecting a specific type of publications. I chose Research Article as my publication type. The Language is just that, the language limiter allows the user to narrow the search to a specific language, and I chose English. When choosing the terms handwashing and applying the “and” operator, along with the limiters Publication Type and English language, I ended with 37
