By acquiring and analyzing qualitative data, researchers gain a better understanding of the research problem through detailed information about the subject of interest. The main purpose of this research approach is to have a full and detailed description of the subject through the application of reasoning. The main purpose of this kind of research is to understand the phenomenon and to describe the situation. “Qualitative data consists of descriptions, quotations, observations, and excerpts from documents” (Quinn, 2002).
Approach
The purpose of this project was to gain a better understanding of the literature of leadership behavior and human resource practices of firms in cross-cultural contexts. In order to gain a better understanding of the subject and to be able to describe the situations in the subject of interest, the qualitative research approach was applied in the project. The secondary data was gathered online, using related articles and accessing reliable websites. It refers to the information using theories and frameworks such as different perspectives on culture, knowledge management, and leadership style in the context of two different countries.
