Psychological Disorder Paper Psychological disorders are stated to be abnormalities of the mind, known as mental disorders (Klasco, 2011). Abnormalities of the mind cause persistent behaviors that affect an individual’s daily function and life (Klasco, 2011). The different types of psychological disorders include mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders (Klasco, 2011). The causes of these disorders are unknown, but factors that contribute to these disorders include childhood experiences, chemical imbalances in the brain, illnesses, heredity, stress, and prenatal exposures (Klasco, 2011). Socialization is stated to be the process where an individual becomes a member of a certain culture (Shiraev & Levy, 2010). When the individual becomes a member of the culture, he or she takes on the cultures behaviors and values (Shiraev & Levy, 2010). Socialization and human develop have processes with delays and accelerations (Shiraev & Levy, 2010). Human development and socialization are lifelong processes that have sudden transitions, changes in direction, and long-term conversions (Shiraev & Levy, 2010).
Human Development Obsessive-compulsive disorder affects 3.3 million Americans every year (UOCD, 2003). OCD affects females, males, and all ethnicities equally (UOCD, 2003). OCD is usually detected first during the teenage years, but it can begin in childhood (UOCD, 2003). OCD can have a major impact on an individual’s life including his or her level of learning, financial independence, and employment status (UOCD, 2003). OCD can be a life-long condition. Individuals between the ages of 18-29, 2% suffer with OCD, 2.3% of individuals with this disorder are between the ages of 30-44, and 1.3% of adults with this disorder are between the age of 45-59, and 0.7% of adults ages 60 and up suffers from this disorder (UOCD, 2003).
