It is important when supporting an individual with autism to identify and recognise each individuals’ abilities – what they can do successfully, needs – what the individual needs support with, strengths and gifts – what the individual is good at, what they have a real talent in, and interests – what is motivating for the person.

Having to care for and change everyday life to accommodate their child can be difficult. They may have to ensure that a high level of observation is maintained to ensure their child’s safety, which can put huge demands on the parents. | Sibling of an individual on the autism spectrum | Siblings of those with ASC can be affected in their everyday lives due to the need of their siblings. Due to parents having to “focus” on the sibling with ASC, neuro-typical siblings can often feel jealous or “left out” due to not having much attention.
