The American quote that I use is “there are no shortcuts to life greatest achievements” which in this culture means that you have to work your way up to become great and successful it will not happen overnight. The function for the African proverb is to explain that the ways things are done are suppose to be respected in have to be done in order to be successful. The American proverb function is explaining that there is no easy way to do anything that deals with great accomplishments. The context in which the American proverb can be use a motivation because any great achievement is not easy to do. In the African proverb the context in which it is use is when Na ayi brought kola to Okonkwo so he could associate and learn from him.
My last proverb I choose was “If one brought oil soiled it others” this describe that one person in a group of other people does wrong then this make the other around the person also looks bad. My American is “one bad apple spoils the bunch” the meaning of this in our culture is if a group of people is associated with a person then the group is look at as if the same the person whether if there are good or bad the group is look at as a whole. The function that the African proverb is use to explain how if one person does something wrong and did the whole land can be punish.
