Identity theft is committed every day in the United States. This form of crime can be extremely serious and life changing. The amount of resources the United States puts toward the prevention of identity theft is just not enough. Identity theft can harm a persons’ entire life because of all the damage that the thief can cause in such a short amount of time. Identity theft is a threat to everybody and the world as a whole should be more aware of the consequences because of all the pain it can cause. The abilities of this group are endless. These people are able to hack into the most secure sites in the world, including: FOX News, around 10 different countries’ governments, Kim Jong Un’s personal things, Paypal, Facebook, Myspace, Xbox Live, and the Playstation Network.
When these super hackers go rogue it is almost impossible to catch them because they are already the best ones at their profession. There have been cases of these hackers leaving Anonymous and stealing thousands of social security numbers, credit card numbers, names, and pictures. Anonymous has successfully been able to shut down Sony’s Playstation Network for over 40 days, and steal around 30,000 credit card numbers from Xbox Live (Ludlow 1). The fact of the matter is, this group has so much potential to steal citizens’ identities with a very little risk of them ever getting caught, and it is not just Anonymous who has the ability to perform this act. Millions of people around the world have the knowledge to hack into people’s personal information. This is why no one is ever one-hundred percent safe because, no matter how secure a person is online, people with specialized skills could get into it.
