Common Issues Affecting Teenagers in Today’s Society and Generation

Background of the study: Now that we are well into the new Millennium society has begun to recognize serious concerns with issues that teenagers have to deal with today. Some issues have always been there but are now coming to the eyes of the public to find solutions. Other issues are new trends as society begins to adapt to a faster pace of life. This study will define the common issues that the teenagers are facing in today.

Additionally, a desire for independence and becoming one's own person can lead teenagers to distance themselves from their families.
While it is certainly a difficult period for the child, it is true that the parents are also experiencing stresses, changes, and confusion at this time. Parents tend to be over protective to their child, over think and over react. That’s why according to Don Fontenelle, it is important to recognize some of the normal behaviors and reactions of parents and teens during this period. Many parents perceive certain teen attitudes and behaviors to be problems, whereas in reality these may follow typical adolescent patterns and should be dealt with as such.
It is also important to understand that some teenage behaviors that seem bizarre to parents are a normal part of teen life. According to an internet source (troubledteen101.com), it is normal for a teenager to be self-conscious because keeping up with trends is important for teenagers. Another is the focus on one's friends, dating and a desire to be independent of the family, to be ones "own person." Sometimes, teen will not talk to their parents as often as he or she used to or doesn’t want to be seen in public with their parents. There will be arguments and defiance as well. And lastly, Emotional ups and downs.
