A Reflective Account on Personal Preferences, Attitudes, Heritage, and Beliefs Might Impact Working Practice
I work in a residential home for Dementia for the elderly, some of the clients Dementia range from mild to severe. The clients are raised in a very different way to how I was raised and it is important that I must remember this and respect their this as we all have personal beliefs and preferences based on our background and upbringing. I have been brought up in a very mixed society but in a church of England school where religious education was compulsory, however we still studied various other religions and were taught to respect all people and there beliefs. If people are being picked on or being treated less favourably then another person then this is being discriminated against. Discrimination in anyway is not acceptable behaviour. People may be discriminated because of their colour,race,age,gender, and many other factors. They are different types of discrimiantion for exmple in a health care setting such as a home where the elderly are having a dance that had been organised and the health care worker has excluded a particular service user from participating because they are perhaps in a wheel chair bearing in mind the client can use move their arms and participate in other ways, or not allowing someone with Dementia that may be excluded from certain outings.
