Obesity is one of the main topics in America including one of the main reasons of death.-(begin with a subject) Detecting obesity is easy, but treating it can be very hard to do. Never have there have been so many teens and children not only overweight but obese. In some ways, it could be called the plague of the twenty- first century due to adolescents and teenagers indulging themselves in a plethora of food for every meal they have, therefore becoming overweight and morbidly obese. Marketing their products to children using such methods as these is a successful way to bring in customers. Without a doubt, children from all over will recognize McDonald’s famous mascot, Ronald McDonald. Since the time these kids were small, they have familiarized themselves with McDonalds due to the amount of restaurants just around the corner from their houses. McDonalds uses the images of Ronald McDonald or their Golden Arches on items such as Barbie’s and video games in order to draw kids into purchasing that item, and going to McDonalds.

Due to the outrageous advertisement of fast food corporations, their displaying of television and radio commercials along with local newspaper and magazine ads by parading “Wonderful tasting food for a cheap price!” have helped the epidemic of obesity increase larger than ever including the profits of fast food corporations. In the Sacramento Bee, a local Sunday newspaper, the article It’s portion distortion that makes America fat by Shannon Brownlee, she writes “By McDonalds enhancing food proportions and selling their meals for cheaper prices not only “supersized” our meals and waist lines but their profits.” The effects of “supersizing” hamburgers, French fries and drinks are colossal to the increase of obesity.
