Why WGU?

Choosing what college to attend can be a daunting process at any time. Selecting a school as an adult student can be even more difficult. Beyond the normal considerations of cost, program types, traditional school or online, and location, there are additional factors to consider as an adult student. These may include work schedule conflicts, family life, distance to travel, and credit earned for life experience. The nineteen governors who founded Western Governors University took these things into consideration when developing the school and its programs. In fact, the quality of education at WGU is so high that it is accredited by not one but four major accrediting commissions. These include the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). WGU is also the only exclusively online college to receive accreditation from the NCATE. (" Accreditation," 2010) Because of all these accreditations, an education from Western Governors University is taken very seriously by other colleges as well as future employers. That is far more valuable than what the price of the tuition could ever suggest. Overall, for the student who is willing to work hard and is self-motivated, Western Governors University is one of the best colleges available today. It offers the highest level of quality in education, as demonstrated by its many accreditations. Along with the high quality, it also provides the flexibility that is so important in today’s hectic world and the affordability that is much needed in the current economic market. Add to this the support that is provided by student mentors, program mentors, and individual mentors so that the student always has someone to call on for any issues he or she may come across.
