Marketing products, services, or even charities to the public has become a very powerful force in our world. Millions of dollars are spent on advertising each year with the goal of increasing revenue for the business or raising awareness of an organization to the public. Pharmaceutical companies bring products to the markets that are intended to help people live better lives. There is not only a mandate for us to do what is morally right, but we should also avoid doing morally wrong. The Bible teaches that whenever you are able to, do good to people who need help; do not withhold good from those that you can assist. The pharmaceutical advertisements introduce the consumer to options that they may not know about otherwise. If we do not allow the consumer to see the products that are available we are keeping them from something that can really help them live a better life. The FDA made it clear that “a great deal of warning information should be provided about side effects and other dangers” that the drugs pose to the public (DeGeorge, 319). The advertisements do not withhold information from the public that conceals the adverse effects that the drugs have on some individuals.
One argument against the pharmaceutical companies is the argument of self-diagnosis by the public. The issue of self-diagnosis is non-existent in my view. If a person is surveying their health, it is a positive trait. The information that is learned allows the individual to ask questions and become more informed with their health. Even if the person does self-diagnosis there is no damage done. Without
