Uniforms
I have to say that i think uniforms for a public school is a ridiculous idea. My daughter starter Emerson in Pre-K and no uniforms were required. However, apparently, the majority of the parents of the student body decided that they wanted uniforms that next year. I happen to be the MINORITY in this school district and feel that i was alienated since my minority group, was of course so small, that a fair and just pole was not taken.
I do NOT believe children that are in a public elementary school deserve to wear these distasteful, communistic, un-individualistic outfits. Being a child in a public school is about not having to do all the boring things that adults or private schools have to do. Children this age need to be able to express themselves in whatever way they see fit, and if that way is wearing shorts with flowers, a shirt with Dora the Explorer, and ballet slippers all at once they should have that opportunity.
I also do not agree with the belief that uniforms are somehow cheaper than jeans and a t-shirt. I can only find Emerson uniforms at 1 specific store in town which for collared shirts and the slacks that are required by the schools dress code are to be around $10.00 each per item. However if I were to go to say Wal-Mart I would find Jeans for est. of $5.00 and shirts around the same price. This to me clearly shows that uniforms are clearly NOT cheaper and are actually harder to find than even regular clothes.
I also believe that our Constitution also allows us freedom of Speech and freedom from Oppression. I believe that wearing uniforms in a public school violates both of these amendments.
In short I find these rules un-American, expensive, and they violate are childrens amendment rights for the public school system.
I hope anyone that reads this agrees with me and if you do not that is your choice, after all this is America land of the Free, right?
