I graduated from West Penn in June of 1987. Looking back, I can honestly say, that my education in the classroom as well as my clinical experience in the hospital was EXCELLENT! I felt prepared to function as an RN right out of school. I felt that my clinical skills were well-beyond those of other "new grads" that I began working with. I am still in Nursing, and have worked in Orthopedics, Pediatrics, and now the IV Team/Picc Team. I have a GREAT concern for young men and women who are enrolled in Nursing schools today, as they ARE NOT receiving the intense, hospital training that they so desperately need to function in the acute care settings when they graduate. I have not returned to school for my BSN, but was glad that I was able to receive Penn State College credits toward a degree while I was enrolled at West Penn. I have MANY fond memories of my 3 years there; I am so grateful to the instructors I had at the time. I distinctly remember Mrs Kerr; she was wonderful! Thank you for this opportunity to "review my alma mater!"
