Educational Mission

The Byzantine Catholic Seminary of SS. Cyril and Methodius prepares candidates for priestly ministry to the Byzantine Catholic Churches of North America. Called by God from among the community of believers and filled with the gift of the Holy Spirit, the priest is ordained as servant and leader to preach the Word and to offer spiritual sacrifices for the renewal and evangelization of God's people. The Seminary prepares candidates for the presbyterate through an integrated program of intellectual, spiritual and pastoral formation. Founded in 1950, the Seminary is governed a Board of Directors under the leadership of the Metropolitan Archbishop of Pittsburgh. In addition to its own School of Theology, the Seminary provides formation for resident college seminarians who study at local colleges and universities. The academic programs of the Byzantine Catholic Seminary are likewise open to qualified off-campus students whether lay or religious.
