I feel for these children. It is pretty sad, that the working parents have to let their children walk. Not only is it bad that they have to walk in freezing weather, but it is also scary that they have to walk in a neighborhood where it is a known fact that there are several sexual offenders. I have to drive my child to school everyday and have to be at work at nine. I'm almost late everyday because my child lives less than one mile from the school, but in order to walk there she would have to cross portage trail and broad blvd., so instead I have to take the risk of losing my job in order to know my child will get to school safely. I've contacted the bus garage on numerous ocassions and they've informed me there is nothing that can be done about this issue. My husband and I are considering having to move to either a further location from the school or possibly another city. Not only is this a major issue I'm forced to deal with, but I was informed (and had also attended a meeting regarding) that they are trying to change the school hours to even later. Which in this case we would have no choice but to sell our home and move because I would lose my job of twelve years. I hope that somehow these issues can be resolved for the better because we really enjoy living in this community.
