I also went to this school when I was a child. So I have a lot of experience with this school. I will say the only reason my kids are still at this school this year is only because I haven't moved yet. I am in the process however of transferring to a new school for next year. If your child is a fall in line type of kid, they should be fine. But if you have a child that needs a little more attention, or a learning problem, DO NOT COME HERE! The staff is inattentive to these children's needs, And they are protected by the union. This schools focus is mainly on the school rating. So if your child cant keep up, oh well, they will pass them through anyway with a year full of punishments and neglect, over looking the individual child's needs. This school is technically rated "excellent" but all that means for your child is that the test scores of the majority of the children are high, so the school does NOT qualify for funding for more special needs teachers/instructors, or anything else for that matter that would help. Even if your child only needs a little extra reading help, they will refuse the extra time, saying there is no one available to help your child. They will, if they remember, ask an older student to help read to your child for the state mandated 100 book challenge...again only so the numbers look good. And if your child cant read, no one will know, but you. If there were any good teachers left in the school they have all just retired. I asked a teacher why, and she said that it's too much about test scores and numbers, and not about teaching anymore. I know that a lot of schools are being made to go this way. But Windemere has always only worried about the appearance of things. It's about keeping up with looking like the best elementary school in the district. But in all reality, if that is the case, it's not saying much! I will give kudos to the new principal this year, Mrs. Knabel, as she has attempted to strive for better from her staff this year, but again they are protected. Also, never question what goes on inside of the classroom to a teacher if you are concerned your child isn't getting it, they will make you out to be violent, and request you to leave the building. They wont answer your notes or phone calls regarding concerns, and they dont like you showing up either. In order to get any where with a child with a learning problem, just go to the district, because Windemere wont help you. And after you go to the district, and you think everything is okay, be ready for the teachers to drop the ball and forget all about your child again, sweeping them off to the side, so the teachers have time for the Internet or they're personal phone calls. Other than that it's a perfect school if you like appearances, and ignoring real issues.
