1960's
School, small & personal, we shared important part of teachers and students life. Students, some of whom had drama.
Hot Dog lunch Day... the stench of sour kraut (smelt like old panty hose boiling in a vat of water) permeated the building.
Ice cream sandwich, ten cents.
Same friendly faces in the cafeteria. Mr Owens, memorable, gym instructor. Thanks for the memories: to all teachers, admins, custodians, parents...
Got to be hall monitor, bell ringer 8:30 am (neighborhood heard bell, time to begin walking to school), & AAA crossing guard.
Got hall lockers during this time.
Was easier to do air-raid drills, (head between legs), before, without the lockers squeezing us in. Sputnik. First mirror in boys room, can see that spaghetti sauce on your face and clean it off before returning to class...tuck those shirts in.
Every year we planted a tree out front for Arbor day. Ran out of room. Candid Camera Show had our Kinder gardeners putting dogs over a low fence.
It rained and it snowed, we could watch from the windows. Most of the time, the sun shined, the weather was beautiful. Class windows remained open, no screens. But conversely, most of the time our weekends rained and poured. Weekends at home, rained, kept us home watching: Captain Kangaroo, Hopalong Cassidy, Zachery, 3 Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, and others.
My first crush, My first best friend. I could go on and on.
Like to hear from you.

I think that Brooklyn Avenue is a great school. I love that school the only reason I left was because I moved if it wasnt for that I would have stayed. I think the teachers and staff were great and all the other people that worked there. I also think the classroms, transportation, and teachers and staff were great.
