PARENTS BEWARE…..here is my story. My son 8th grade, 7th upon entering the LLMS from APS schools has been spec ed since 1st grade due to behavior and social problems associated with ADHD. He as for the most part been is seclusion classes throughout his school years. My son was after two weeks in regular ed classes and suspended from school at the beginning of his 7th grade year, told he could not return until they implemented an off campus seclusion spec ed program. Several weeks later, he was put into a seclusion class in a portable by Century High School. After re-evaluating him for spec ed in their own report came to the conclusion that further testing was needed; however, decided that he should be in reg ed classes with three being inclusion classes for his 8th grade year. After three or four schedule changes within the first two weeks of school, he was finally in the classes that they felt would be beneficial to him. After failing grades and several suspensions, I contacted the very incompetent principal to say this isn’t working and that I want him back in the seclusion class. I was then told that I would have to have an IEP scheduled before this change could be implemented. In early Nov 2008, an IEP was held where I was told that my son no longer qualifies for spec ed services, and after expressing my extreme disagreement was told that he could remain in his current classes but would not receive any further spec ed services. I made many attempts to contact the head of the spec ed dept to see what I could do to get this overturned and get my son back in spec ed, with no return calls or any concern from the school district. I even tried to go to the superintendent level to no avail. M id Dec 2008 two days before winter break after another altercation with a student he was long term suspended for the rest of the school year. I am not still currently in process of filing a state complaint and trying to get him reinstated into spec ed before he goes into high school, as he needs these services. No one in the LL School administration has any right to be in a position of educating our children. They have absolutely no concern for children with special needs. No wonder these schools in Los Lunas are at the bottom in the state. Because of the Los Lunas schools my son has not received an education for the majority of his eighth grade year, a right of every student to receive a free education…..no child left behind….only for the “normal” kids I guess, what a joke.
