Trust me, having a child in a detention center for 24 hours is plenty enough time to think about what they've done. They are just kids and some need a wake up call. I spent a week in the Mountain Grove Detention Center. I learned a lot in there. I believe that being in there only for 24 hours is ver traumitizing. It is jail, just for juveniles. You're behind a thick steal door, you can't see outside, you get an inch thick matress and a metal toilet with a sink. You get up at 6 get told to eat, take a shower, then stay in the room until your next meal or rotation if you're done with 72 hour lock down. If that's not enough for a child to understand they were in the wrong, I don't know what will. When the people there and your transporter doesn't believe you won't be back, it sets up a goal to reach. Believe me if you ever stayed there you wouldn't say you think 24 hours is too short.

i was in this place for nearly 2 month and ill tell you the people there know what they are doing.. when you first get in there you want to believe they are all against you and that they just want you gone and there bank accounts filled.. however being in there a while like i was i got to know some of the staff. the teacher there works her butt off during schooling there to get you the education you need, and to be honest some people didnt diserve it because they didnt wanna try.. but know matter how hard people tried to disrupt class she always found a way to help the kids who were willing to learn so i thank her for that.. also Mr. C who would sit down with us and play spades.. when he talked with us or played a card game with me it made me feel like a normal person and not a delinquent.. as well did the bat laddie!!! yes, i remimber her to!! and last the janitor who i got along with really well and still to this day use everybit of advise he gave me while i was there...

wanda i have to disagree with you, i was in that center several years ago because i got cought with a little bit of marijuana. i have never been in trouble besides that time.i went there and was only in there 3 days, but believe you me it worked. those 3 days scared me so bad and when i saw how upset my mother was it realy hit home. since then i work a good job and stayed out of trouble and have a better relationship with my mom than ever. the people who run the place are realy realy good at there jobs and make the calls on how long they think a childs stay is neccesary. they could tell that the 3 days had done its job and im realy happy i didnt have to stay in there any longer.say what you will this generation is any better or worse than the generation who raised it. a suggestion for the place from me is that i think they should show the parents of different programs they can look into for anger, depression, anxiety or anything else that a child might need. love your kids and never give up on them. being to strict can do more damage than good somtimes but whats fair is fair

I Believe That A Child dont learn any lesson if they are there in the center for just 24 hrs. Sometimes they need more time to think bout what they have done and what they continue to do out side of the center. If we make it a harder and a longer lesson to deal with and show them that their behavior is not going to be tolerated. Maybe it will help them to stay out of trouble more. Being to leanient on the adolesents is why they are out of control. This is my opinion as a mother. And my child has been there twice so i know that staying in a room alday isnt teaching them anything nor is being put there for short periods of time. I Feel other things can be done but it has to take more than just me to make these changes for these kids. Thanks Wanda
