"Minnesota nice" is the phrase locals use for most Minnesotans in general and the reason is the people are pretty laid back. They might be a bit stiff at first, but after they've met you, they're kind. The U of M is known as a first rate research university, so you'd think you wouldn't get to know many of the top professors, who might save themselves for the grads--not true. Many of the most knowledgeable professors teach undergraduates and enjoy it. If you like cities, Minneapolis is a fun one. It's called the "minni apple" because of it's vast supply of live theatre. Sports enthusiasts will not be let down by the Gophers. Gymns and pools are plentiful as are PE classes that rock. It must be there's so much snow in the winter that someone decided to make all kinds of indoor fun. Maybe that's a reason so many talented professors flock to the place, especially the science departments. There's a new visual arts building and the architecture's outstanding. If you need help, teaching assistants abound. Only problem is that you need to be tolerant, like the locals, of foreign accents. All in all, the U of M has an extremely large population and there's reason for it. That many people can't all be wrong.
