Educational Mission

The campuses of Indiana University are currently involved in a comprehensive review of their respective missions. The Indiana Commission for Higher Education retains authority to review and approve such missions. The following paragraphs are drawn from the last approved mission statements.
Indiana University Southeast embraces the traditional goals of liberal education: intellectual development and the stimulation and perpetuation of a spirit of free inquiry directed to an understanding of humanity and the universe. Realization of these high purposes is served by activities designed to increase knowledge: develop the ability to reason: enlarge and deepen aesthetic sensitivity; instill a sense of responsibility towards people and the environment; deal intelligently with moral and spiritual questions, social issues and scientific and technical problems; assist students in identifying their aptitudes, enhancing their abilities and broadening their interests; and foster the development of character which encompasses the highest ideals.
