This is a private type school. Run extremely poorly. There are about 3 good teachers there. The program is very intense, lasting one year. You have 3 months of school and then 3 months of intern at local clinics, hospitals, etc. Then another 3 months of school and 3 months of intern again. Most of the intern places, the people are extremely rude. The school doesn't pay these places anything, so these places of internship don't feel they owe the students anything. So they treat you like dirt under their feet, and soon as you do one little thing wrong; like take a patient back too soon, or say anything remotely sounding rude, they report you to school and then the school reams your butt out!! There are about 21 to 26 students that start every 3 months. There are only 3 computers to practice on your fellow school mates for practice. When you arn't in class, it is next to impossible to use one of the computers to practice scanning because other classes of 21 - 26 are using them. There are quite a few proficiency tests for scanning that are extremely nerve racking. They are timed and if you fail the first one, you get a second chance. But fail it a second time and you are out of the program. The teachers for physics, OB, vascular and abdomen are nice and caring. But the witch they have for echo is totally useless!! She loves to humiliate the students, make you cry, belittle you and make you feel utterly stupid and incapable of learning. Her written tests are so unbelievably difficult - mostly fill in the blank. My class did pretty good on the first few tests, so she decided to re-write the tests to make them harder, and then couldn't figure out why some of the students were doing poorly. She also tells the students "I am here if you need help, just ask me". But when you do, she criticizes you for not paying attention in class or that she just explained that earlier in the week. It's a no win situation with this teacher. The owners of the school - a husband and wife team could care less on how good or bad the teachers are. As long as they get their money, that's the bottom line. Besides they have had a hard time finding a teacher to replace the witch that teaches Echo. There were about 5 students in my class that had attended 4 year colleges for other degrees. They all agreed that the FL Institute of U/S was way more stressful than any other college they had attended. Six months into the program almost all of the students were taking antidepressants (and these students were not previously on any antidepressants). Everyone in my class said they would try to let everyone know how awful this school is, and not to recommend it to anyone!!!
