My personal experience in going to Goodwin College is as follows:
I was taken in by the small student to teacher ratio, the small campus, and charm of recruiter.
I find that this college is overly expensive for what is provided. The Academic office and Accounting office lose records and transcripts and receipts of payment ALL OF THE TIME! If you have applied using the online application and submitted your payment via the internet (which I believe you have to do in order to submit your application), you'd better hang on to some form of receipt and make TONS of copies. They will try and hit you up for that 50 dollars each time you register for class. Do NOT be late w/registering, as that will cost you another 25 dollars. Do NOT expect to be alerted to any changes of policy or important registration/financial aid dates via mail. These postings are "supposed" to be hung in the main building where students can see them in passing, that is of course, unless you have classes in the modular classrooms outside of the main area.
Parking is horrible! Expect having to fight for a parking spot. You NEED to inquire about a parking sticker, one will NOT be provided to you at registration, and if your car is parked in student parking w/out a sticker, expect another monetary fine.
I get the feeling that this schools priorities are 1 - Money 2 - Recruitment 3 - Advertisement
The faculty for the most part consists of underqualified, unorganized, unprofessional, rude, and simply the laziest Hartford has to offer. Goodwin is also becoming more "smug" in the fact that because there is a shortage of Associates Degree in Nursing Programs, and their school offers this program, they can be more lax in their responsibilities and disregard the fact that the students are important in keeping the college operational = a very substandard educational institution.
My Advice - if you are seeking a college in Nursing studies.. FIRST, get ALL of your pre-req's done at a Community College (Despite the shabby repuation these colleges have, they provide the most TOP NOTCH education w/very little expense!!) Try to get A's in Chemistry, Algebra Intermediate, and Anatomy & Physiology - that will get you into a Nursing program at that Community College (which far excel in education again!) - but should you not be a straight A student (as I am NOT) - still complete ALL of your pre-req's at community college, DO VOLUNTEER WORK for 36 or more Hours, Get as high a GPA as possible, Excel on the NLN exam ( this exam is about 20 dollars if taken at Community College vs Goodwin at around 50 dollars now), THEN TRANSFER into Goodwin - they are going to make you take Intermediate Algebra again so if you're planning on transerring, skip that at the Community College. Once you are in the RN program, you're golden. THEN, once you have your RN associates degree... you can again TRANSFER to another college , I recommend Central CT State University for your bachelors and so on.
If I had it to do all over again.. I would never have attended this college. I hope this review is helpful to those of you in doubt, gut instinct telling you to rethink.. LISTEN TO IT.
