I was shocked and saddened to hear of the closing of SJ. I attended high school there from 1964 through 1966, then collage in 1968. My parents were school teachers in St Michael and Akiak. Since there were no high schools in those days, I was sent away to boarding school. The first two weeks were terrifing for a young girl but I soon came to love everything I discovered. Gladys Whitmore and Odetta Gray were my two favorite teachers. They were so kind. I had to move my senior year. I missed itso much that i came back the day after graduation and worked on campus the summer of 67 before the fall term. It was the best time of my life and I am so very very sorry that the school has closed.

After 130 years, officially the former administration of SJC annouced that the college had "suspended operations" - in reality its gone forever.
