So are Giant Pandas really bears or not? Here you can learn the latest on this question, plus lots of fascinating facts about the eight bear species of the world. There’s also information about conservation organizations and what they are doing to help bears in their dwindling habitats all over the world.

This is a biology course taught at UC Irvine, but it's also fascinating reading for anyone interested in biology. The professor includes here the lecture texts for such subjects as History of Life, The Age of Mammals, Values of Biodiversity, Extinction and Depletion from Over-Exploitation, and more.

The Center, put together by Rice University, offers a number of Conservation Biology areas for study. Their Virtual Library of Ecology, Biodiversity and the Environment contains hundreds of great biology links in a user-friendly format. "One out of every ten plants native to the United States is in danger of extinction." Come to the Center for Plant Conservation's web site and learn more about the problem, what is happening in plant conservation, and how you can help.

"Europe's foremost eco-centre" is located in Wales, on the site of an abandoned slate quarry. Here this educational charity works "for a sustainable future." This is an excellent site detailing in word and picture the "green" technologies being developed here. Lots of food for thought--and action!

This organization is dedicated to the preservation of all wild animals and plants in their natural habitats. Information on the organization is included, as is information on how to participate. It includes a general overview of what's happening to the environment around the world as well.

This is a great resource containing lots of information about endangered species. With everything from specific listings to discussion rooms and curriculum suggestions, this site is very useful.

This organization puts the slogan "Think globally, act locally" into practice--its mission is to encourage everyone to do something to help the environment.

Earthwatch supports a scientist-citizen partnership to gain understanding of earth and to work toward a sustainable future. You can volunteer to go into the field to help scientists learn about oceans, forests, or biodiversity--and get college credit for it. Past expeditions and results are especially interesting.

This is "A Place to Help Save the Earth." It has a comprehensive collection of ecology news, products, quotes, and links. You can find out about everything from renewable energy to activism opportunities to earth friendly restaurants in your area!

This organization focuses on helping communities rebuild their economies on foundations that don't harm the environment. Their conservation strategies are explained on the site. Their primary focus is on North American rain forests.

Part of the Biodiversity site of the California Academy of Sciences, this listing of books and articles pertaining to endangered species is a useful starting place.

Take a virtual zoo tour of various endangered species, with images, profiles, and status information on endangered animals. Part of the Defenders of Wildlife site noted above, this is a great page.

This nonprofit organization offers information, links, and help with placement in environmental careers.

This is the largest online environmental information resource on the planet, according to its creators.

The is The Mining Company's Environment site, and your guide has prepared features on a number of environmental topics, answered questions, and put together a nice set of annotated links to environmental sites.

The official site for the EDF, which focuses on saving the environment by educating populations and by working with industries and governments to modify environmentally harmful practices.
